Il festival Small Season a Sofia, Bulgaria, festeggia il suo ventesimo anniversario nel 2020. Per celebrare la ricorrenza il Theatre Laboratory Sfumato annuncia un bando internazionale per spettacoli da programmare nel festival che si terrà dal 26 giugno al 5 luglio 2020.
Si cercano artisti di tutte le discipline che lavorino nell’ambito teatrale e che vogliano condividere il proprio lavoro a Sofia. Ogni anno molti artisti sono invitati per delle residenze o per diventare parte del programma della regolare stagione.
Se volete candidarvi come gruppo è possibile fino a 4 persone. Non ci sono limiti geografici o di età. Il festival copre le spese di viaggio (fino a 300 euro a persona), l’alloggio (in hotel nel centro di Sofia) e il vitto fino a 4 notti / 5 giorni.
Il teatro fornisce la pubblicità, il materiale e l’equipaggiamento tecnico per supportare la presentazione e/o lo sviluppo del progetto.
Il festival, che è interamente no-profit, non vende biglietti e offre al pubblico locale tutti gli eventi gratuitamente pertanto non è in grado di pagare un cachet e gli artisti dovranno provvedere (tramite la lettera di invito) a trovarsi i finanziamenti nel paese di origine. Ulteriori finanziamenti per i viaggi possono essere cercati se vivete al di fuori dell’Europa.
Le proposte possono essere in vari formati e contenere teatro, nuove scritture drammaturgiche, performance e arte dal vivo, arte partecipativa (c’è un grande parco al di fuori del teatro che può prestarsi per svolgere happening e/o installazioni), (post-)danza e coreografia (espansa), ma anche dei ‘talks’, delle letture, conversazioni di critica, proposte teoriche e workshop che portino “oltre” la pratica artistica mentre contribuiscono allo sviluppo della scena locale. Le proposte possono essere in qualsiasi livello del processo creativo (in progress, o lavori finiti o allo stadio iniziale della visione che abbisogna di tempo e spazio per svilupparsi).

Small Season Festival > Open Call for Theatre Laboratory Sfumato (Bulgaria)
The festival Small Season in Sofia, Bulgaria will have its 20-year anniversary in 2020. To celebrate the anniversary, Theatre Laboratory Sfumato is announcing an international open call for performances to programme in the festival, which will run 26 June – 5 July 2020. They are looking for artists from any discipline who work within the theatrical tradition and are interested to share their work in Sofia. Every year several of the artists are invited for residencies in the theatre and/or to become part of the programming of the regular season.
You can apply as a team of up to 4 people. There are no geographical or age limits. The festival will cover flights (up to 300 euro per person), accommodation (in a hotel in central Sofia) and catering for up to 4 nights / 5 days.
The theatre will provide advertising, materials and technical equipment to support the presentation and/or development of the projects.
The festival, which is entirely not-for-profit, doesn’t sell tickets, and offers all events for free for the local audiences, is unable to pay fees but can provide artists with letters of invitation to apply for additional support from funding bodies in their countries. Additional travel funds can also be sought after in case you live beyond Europe.
Proposals can vary in format and content – theatre, new writing and dramaturgy, performance and live art, public and participatory art (there is a big park outside the theatre that can be a site for happenings and installations), (post-)dance and (expanded) choreography, as well as talks, lectures, critical conversations, theoretical proposals, and workshops that can drive the artist’s practice forward, while also contributing to the development of the local scene. Proposals can also be in any stage of progress – from finished works to initial ideas/visions that need further time and space to be developed.
