Dance Bridges Festival invita artisti internazionali a candidarsi per la seconda edizione del Festival che si svolgerà a Kolkata, in India, dal 22 al 29 agosto 2017. Questo festival è una nuova piattaforma/showcase e presenta coreografi contemporanei attraverso spettacoli, workshop e film. Gli artisti possono anche impegnarsi in un progetto di residenza, stage, incontri con artisti e altri eventi per la comunità.

PERFORMANCES & WORKSHOPS

Procedura di adesione: possono candidarsi compagnie di danza professionali e artisti indipendenti dall’India e dall’estero.

Il lavoro dovrebbe riflettere le tendenze contemporanee nella coreografia, le candidature di diversi stili di danza sono benvenute. Il Festival offre performances tra i diversi luoghi: teatro di grande e piccola scala, site-specific e situazione intima in sala studio.

Criteri per il lavoro presentato: solo (10-12 minuti), duo / trio (10-20 minuti), gruppo di massimo 6 danzatori (15-30 minuti). Possono essere candidati anche lavori a serata intera di 40-55 (solo/duo). Si prega di considerare che le opere integrali saranno prese principalmente in considerazione per le situazioni intime.

Le performances non devono contenere scene di nudo, linguaggio offensivo, o apertamente sessuale o contenuto religioso “sensibile”. Il tappeto da danza nero sarà fornito per strutture più grandi. Le performances non dovrebbero fare uso di scene o oggetti di scena pesanti così da consentire semplice montaggio e smontaggio. Un impianto di proiezione digitale sarà disponibile tuttavia gli artisti devono indicare le loro esigenze fin da subito. Inoltre sarà fornito un piano luci basilare che bilanci le esigenze complessive di tutti gli artisti.

Si prega di notare che le performances sono del tutto gratuite. Dance Bridges Festival non è in grado di dare alcun cachet agli artisti tuttavia farà ogni sforzo per supportare al meglio il loro soggiorno a Kolkata. Ai candidati selezionati per lo showcase potrebbe essere chiesto di contribuire al programma di sensibilizzazione tenendo un laboratorio aperto durante il festival.

I candidati devono inviare curriculum vitae, descrizione del lavoro, crediti di tutti gli artisti coinvolti (tra cui musica e video in tutta la lunghezza del lavoro proposto). Si prega inviare anche il piano luci ed altri requisiti tecnici e di indicare anche la preferenza per quanto riguarda il tipo di spazio. I candidati possono inviare un massimo di 3 lavori. Per il laboratorio aperto si prega di includere una descrizione dell’attività proposta. Tutte le domande saranno esaminate da un comitato di programmazione internazionale e gli artisti selezionati riceveranno una lettera di invito entro la fine di dicembre 2016.

Dance Bridges Festival

Dance Bridges Festival invites international artists to apply for its second edition in Kolkata, India, from August 22-29, 2017. This Festival is a new platform to showcase exciting contemporary choreography through performances, workshops and films. Artists can also engage in a residency project, internships, artist talks and other community/outreach events.

PERFORMANCES & WORKSHOPS

Application Process: Professional dance companies & independent artists/dancers/choreographers from India and abroad may apply.

The work should reflect contemporary trends in choreography, applications from different dance styles are welcome. The Festival offers performances across different kinds of venues: large/small-scale theatre, site-specific and intimate studio settings.

Criteria for the work presented: solo (10-12 minutes), duet/trio (10-20 minutes), group of maximum 6 dancers (15-30 minutes). Full length solo/duet work from 40-55 minutes can also be submitted. Please consider that full length works will primarily be considered for intimate settings.

Performances should not contain nudity, abusive language, overtly sexual or religiously sensitive content. A black linoleum dance floor will be provided for larger venues. Performances should not make use of heavy sets/props and allow a simple get-in and get-out. Digital projection facilities will be available however artists must indicate their requirements at an early stage. Basic lighting will be provided balancing the overall needs of all artists performing on the night.

Please note that performances are entirely free of charge. Dance Bridges Festival is unable to provide performance fees to artists however the Festival endeavours to support participants whilst in Kolkata to its best capacity and ensure a creatively exciting, vibrant cultural exchange and pleasant stay in the city. Selected candidates for the showcase series may be asked to contribute to the outreach programme and teach an open workshop during the festival where appropriate.

Applicants need to submit a resume, a description of the work, credits of all artists involved including music and a full length video of the proposed work(s). Please include lighting and other technical requirements also mentioning preference regarding the type of venue. Applicants can only submit a maximum of 3 works. For the open workshop please include a description of the proposed activity. All applications will be reviewed by an international programming committee and selected artists will receive an invitation letter by the end of December 2016.

DANCE FILM SCREENINGS

Application Process:  Dance films may be submitted by dancers/choreographers/film-makers/directors from India and abroad. Films should be dance related and should not contain nudity, abusive language, overtly sexual or religiously sensitive content. Film length should be between 3 to 15 minutes.Applicants need to submit an artist resume/company profile and a full length video of the proposed film(s) via youtube or vimeo. Applicants can only submit a maximum of 3 works. Applications will be reviewed by an international programming committee and artists will be informed by the end of January 2017.

FESTIVAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

Application Process:  Indian & International candidates over 18 years of age with prior education/training/ interest in business & arts management, creative industries, dance production, media, arts & culture studies may apply. Good communication skills and English fluency is required. Applicants can sign up for a 2 to 4 week internship to gain experience in the arts and learn about the overall management of an international dance festival. They will be fully involved in all aspects of the Festival including: working with artists and facilitators, connecting with sponsors and media, liaising with production teams. Interns should be ready to work flexible hours averaging 6-8 hours daily

Costs: Artists need to arrange their travel expenses, local hospitality (inclusive of m, local transport to venues, food, theatre/technical and media support) for performing artists is given by the festival. Applicants for the film screenings and internship need to cover their own local expenses but assistance to find suitable housing options will be given by the Festival.
