Il Core Program è il programma chiave della Camargo Foundation. Dal 1971 la Camargo Foundation ha dato residenza ad oltre 800 borsisti Core Program come parte della sua missione al fine di supportare la ricerca innovativa, la sperimentazione e gli approcci interdisciplinari nelle arti e nelle discipline umanistiche. Ogni anno una stimata commissione di studenti e professionisti seleziona 18 singoli o gruppi da più di 1000 candidature da tutto il mondo. I vincitori sono premiati con la residenza in un ambiente sbalorditivo e contemplativo dove si ha spazio, tempo e libertà di pensare, creare e stabilire connessioni. La borsa di studio per la residenza va da 6 a 11 settimane. Con ciascun residente la Fondazione si impegna a favorire connessioni tra ricerca e creazione.
Ammissibilità
La Camargo Foundation premia la diversità e accoglie candidati da ogni paese e nazionalità che rappresentano un ampio raggio di pensiero e pratica. Tre maggiori categorie sono disponibili e molte sub-categorie per le candidature degli artisti.
- Scholars Gli studiosi dovrebbero essere collegati alle arti e alle discipline umanistiche lavorando sulle cultura francese e francofona o sugli studi interculturali che coinvolgono le culture e le influenze della regione mediterranea. Per poter beneficiare di una borsa di studio nella categoria “Scholars”, i candidati sono tenuti a possedere un dottorato di ricerca o una borsa di studio post-dottorato oppure essere candidati PhD che stanno completando la fase finale di ricerca o la scrittura della tesi di laurea.
- Thinkers(pensatori) Questa categoria include professionisti affermati e praticanti dei settori culturali e creativi (come curatori, giornalisti, critici, urbanisti, studiosi indipendenti, ecc.) che sono impegnati professionalmente nel pensiero critico. Siamo interessati al lavoro in sintonia con l’arena teorica, le arti e la società.
- Artisti (di tutte le discipline)Gli artisti di tutte le discipline possono esser i creatori primari di un nuovo progetto/lavoro e devono avere all’attivo pubblicazioni, performance, mostre, credits, premi, e/o borse di studio. La Fondazione è interessata a coloro che hanno sviluppato completamente una voce artistica matura. Possono candidarsi anche artisti che sono impegnati nel pensiero critico e nei progetti di ricerca. Quando vi candidate come artista dovrete aver scelto tra le seguenti sub-categorie: visual artists / coreografi, registi, artista performativo, scrittore, sceneggiatore, film, video, digital artists, compositore, artista del suono, artista multidisciplinare.
Proposta della residenza
- Ricercare, sperimentare e creare: I candidati devono sottoporre una proposta di un lavoro che vorrebbero terminare durante la residenza. Le proposte possono includere specifici progetti da sviluppare o anche completi (ad esempio un libro, un film, una composizione, un artwork, etc.) oppure una ricerca in un particolare argomento o problema, prima di scrivere o creare. I progetti di ricerca devono essere pertinenti ai campi della borsa di studio. Il Camargo Core Program bene accoglie sia esplorazioni a tempo indeterminato che lavori maggiormente focalizzati.
- Scambio & Network: Durante la residenza le discussioni si tengono regolarmente così i borsisti hanno l’opportunità di presentare i loro lavori al gruppo. Questi progetti di discussione servono come occasione per uno scambio interdisciplinare. A tutti i borsisti è richiesto di presenziare a queste discussioni. Lo staff della Camargo Foundation fornirà collegamenti formali ed informali con la regione, incontri con professionisti dei settori che sono rilevanti per il lavoro dei borsisti ed opportunità per partecipare ad eventi e per invitare professionisti esterni alle discussioni sui progetti. Su base volontaria i borsisti hanno l’opportunità di presentare i loro lavori come parte dei programmi delle organizzazioni culturali e formative della regione. Considerato che è interesse della Camargo coinvolgere la comunità locale, si incoraggiano i borsisti a considerare anche possibili programmi con gli studenti (per esempio una classe o una visita a un workshop, etc.). Tali eventi devono essere concepiti ed organizzati in stretto consulto con lo staff della Fondazione.
Informazioni pratiche
Periodi di residenza – Il Camargo Core Program consiste in borse di studio per residenze della durata da 6 a 11 settimane. Le date per il 2020/2021 sono:
- autunno 2020: 8 settimane dall’8 settembre al 3 novembre
- primavera 2021: 6 settimane dal 23 febbraio al 6 aprile, 8 settimane dal 23 febbraio al 20 aprile oppure 11 settimane dal 23 febbraio all’11 maggio
Stipendio: è fornita una retribuzione settimanale di 250 USD. Sono coperte le spese di viaggio da e per Cassis. In caso di volo aereo sarà coperta anticipatamente la seconda classe.

Camargo Foundation. Camargo Core Program 2020-2021. Open call
The Core Program is the flagship program of the Camargo Foundation. Since 1971, the Camargo Foundation has awarded residencies to over 800 Core Program Fellows as part of its mission to support groundbreaking research, experimentation, and interdisciplinary approaches in the Arts and Humanities. Each year, an esteemed panel of scholars and arts professionals selects 18 individuals or teams from over 1,000 submissions from around the world. Winners are awarded residencies in a stunning, contemplative environment where they have the space, time, and freedom to think, create, and connect. Fellowships span 6 to 11 weeks. With each cohort of Fellows, the Foundation strives to foster connections between research and creation.
Eligibility
The Camargo Foundation prizes diversity and welcomes applicants from all countries and nationalities, representing a broad range of creative thought and practice. Three main categories are available, and several subcategories for artists’ applications.
- Scholars – Scholars should be connected to the Arts and Humanities working on French and Francophone cultures, or cross-cultural studies that engage the cultures and influences of the Mediterranean region. To be eligible for a fellowship in the “Scholars” category, applicants are expected either to hold a PhD and a record of post-doctoral scholarship, or, to be PhD candidates completing the final stages of research for, or writing of, their dissertation.
- Thinkers – Thinkers include accomplished professionals and practitioners in cultural and creative fields (such as curators, journalists, critics, urban planners, independent scholars, etc.) who are professionally engaged in critical thought. We are interested in work attuned to the theoretical arena, the arts, and society.
- Artists (all disciplines) – Artists in all disciplines should be the primary creators of a new work/project and should have a track record of publications, performances, exhibitions, credits, awards, and/or grants. We are interested in artists who have a fully developed, mature artistic voice. Applicants may include artists who are engaged in critical thought and research-oriented projects. When applying, artists will have to choose among the following subcategories: Visual Artists / Choreographers, Theater Directors, and Performance Artists / Writers and Playwrights / Film, Video and Digital Artists / Composers and Sound Artists / Multidisciplinary Artists.
Purpose of the Residency
- Research, Experiment & Create: Applicants must submit a proposal of work they would like to accomplish during their residencies. Proposals may include specific projects to develop or complete (e.g. a book, film, composition, artwork, etc.) or research into a particular topic or issue, in advance of writing or creating a work of art. Research projects should be pertinent to the Fellow’s field. The Camargo Core Program welcomes both open-ended exploration, or more focused works.
- Exchange & Network: During the residency, discussions are held regularly so that Fellows have the opportunity to present their work to the group. These project discussions serve as an opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange. All Fellows are required to be present at these discussions. The Camargo Foundation’s staff will provide formal and informal links with the region, meetings with professionals whose areas of expertise are relevant to Fellows’ work, and opportunities to attend events and to invite outside professionals to project discussions. On a voluntary basis, Fellows have the opportunity to present their work as part of the programming of cultural and educational organizations in the region. As part of Camargo’s interest in engaging the local community, we encourage Fellows to also consider possible programs with students (for example, a classroom visit or hands-on workshop). Such events would be conceived and organized in close consultation with the Foundation staff.
Practical Information
- Residency Periods – The Camargo Core Program consists of fellowship residencies that span 6 to 11 weeks. The dates for 2020/2021 are:
- Fall 2020: 8 weeks from September 8 to November 3
- Spring 2021: 6 weeks from February 23 to April 6, 8 weeks from February 23 to April 20, or 11 weeks from February 23 to May 11
- Stipend – A stipend of 250 USD per week is provided, as is funding for basic transportation to and from Cassis for the Fellow for the residency. In the case of air travel, basic coach class booked in advance is covered.
