LIVE WORKS è una piattaforma dedicata alle pratiche contemporanee live che contribuiscono all’approfondimento e all’ampliamento della nozione di performance, seguendo l’attuale spostamento del performativo e delle sue cifre. La piattaforma vuole misurare la concretezza della performance art nel reale indagando l’idea di live nella sua duplice natura – dal vivo e il vivo – dando spazio ai momenti in cui la performance si integra alle dinamiche di vita. LIVE WORKS intende la performance come spazio di lavoro e come strumento ed esercizio culturale e riserva un’attenzione particolare a ricerche artistiche “dal vivo” prescindendo proprio dalla loro presunta provenienza disciplinare. La piattaforma sostiene e produce ricerche ibride con l’intento di sottolineare la natura di “apertura” e fluidità del performativo, la sua implicazione sociale e politica e la sua intelligibilità pubblica.
Ogni anno il gruppo di lavoro di LIVE WORKS si struttura grazie all’apertura del bando LIVE WORKS | Performance Act Award, che inaugura nel mese di Luglio un periodo di residenza creativa, offerto a nove progetti selezionati. La produzione dei progetti in residenza avviene intrecciando diverse tipologie di curatela, dallo sviluppo tecnico all’accompagnamento teorico. Ai progetti viene infatti proposto di concretizzarsi in un territorio che ha incrociato consapevolmente il desiderio dei linguaggi visivi contemporanei di muoversi verso pratiche live e le strategie della produzione teatrale di ricerca.
LIVE WORKS è inoltre dotata di un programma teorico, THE FREE SCHOOL OF PERFORMANCE, un programma giornaliero di studio visits, sessioni critiche collettive, reading groups e discussioni su temi specifici relativi alla ridefinizione del concetto di performance, sessioni di film e incontri informali che accompagnano il lavoro di produzione.

LIVE WORKS si struttura grazie ad un periodo di residenza creativa, offerto a nove progetti selezionati.
LIVE WORKS intende la performance come “spazio di lavoro” e come strumento ed esercizio culturale. L’unicità del premio consiste in un’attenzione particolare alla ricerca ibrida con l’intento di sottolineare la natura di “apertura” e fluidità del performativo, la sua implicazione sociale e politica e la sua intelligibilità pubblica.
Sono ammissibili al bando azioni performative emergenti di diversa natura, comprese: performance, sound and new media art, text-based performance, lecture performance, multimedia storytelling, pratiche coreografiche, pratiche relazionali e progetti workshop-based, e altri progetti che mettono in discussione l’idea di performance al di là del corpo.
Possono partecipare al bando artisti e professionisti di ogni provenienza geografica, singoli o gruppi, con un solo progetto. Al bando sono ammessi solo progetti inediti o di lungo periodo che devono essere sviluppati e/o conclusi e di cui la partecipazione al premio rappresenta un capitolo o il capitolo finale.
I nove progetti, selezionati da LIVE WORKS saranno invitati a partecipare ad una residenza di produzione presso Centrale Fies dal 10 al 20 luglio 2017 durante la quale avranno a disposizione un budget di € 1000,00 ciascuno per produrre la performance.
La produzione dei progetti performativi in residenza avverrà intrecciando diverse tipologie di curatela, dallo sviluppo tecnico all’accompagnamento teorico, attraverso una Free School of Performance composta di studio visit, critical session e reading group.
Durante la fase di residenza Centrale Fies metterà a disposizione un tecnico e un responsabile di produzione per assistere gli artisti durante lo sviluppo dei progetti selezionati. La fase di residenza è parte integrante dello sviluppo del bando e dei progetti selezionati, in caso di particolare impedimenti nell’effettuare la residenza durante il periodo indicato nel bando è possibile sviluppare forme di residenza alternative, la proposta di forme di residenza alternative deve essere giustificata dalla tipologia e particolarità del progetto presentato.
Le performance prodotte saranno presentate durante la 37a edizione del Festival di performing art Drodesera (21, 22 e 23 Luglio 2017). In questa occasione i nove progetti saranno visionati e discussi da un board di professionisti internazionali, provenienti da festival, istituzioni, centri di produzione e residenza e manifestazioni che sostengono /producono la ricerca in ambito performativo. Il board, oltre a valutare la qualità dei lavori presentati, sarà coinvolto attivamente in incontri pubblici e privati con i nove artisti per approfondire alcuni passaggi fondamentali elaborati dalle performance proposte al pubblico.
I nove progetti selezionati potranno inoltre beneficiare di un ulteriore periodo di residenza di 10 giorni presso Centrale Fies, nel periodo compreso tra il 1 Agosto 2017 e il 31 Dicembre 2017, a scelta del singolo vincitore e in accordo con la struttura.

- Manuel Segade (Direttore del Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Madrid e curatore del Padiglione Spagnolo alla 57esima Biennale di Venezia);
- Christine Tohmé (Direttrice di Ashkal Alwan, Beirut e curatrice di Sharjah Biennial 13).

LIVE WORKS is a platform dedicated to live contemporary practices that contribute to deepening and broadening the idea of performance, following the current evolution of performance and its styles. This platform aims to measure the concreteness of performance art in the real world, investigating the double nature of “live” – in person and alive – highlighting those moments in which performance integrates with the dynamics of life.
LIVE WORKS conceives performance both as a working space as well as a cultural tool, with a particular focus on “alive” artistic researches disregarding of their original discipline. The platform supports and produces hybrid researches with the aim of emphasizing the open and fluid nature of the performative, as well as its social and political implication and its public cognizability.
Each year a new working team is structured through the open call LIVE WORKS | Performance Act Award, offering a creative residency in the month of July to nine selected projects. The production of the projects during the residency takes place through diverse curatorial typologies, from technical development to theoretical support. The projects are encouraged to engage with a territory that has consciously embraced the desire of contemporary visual languages to move towards live practices and the production strategies typical of experimental theatre. Furthermore, LIVE WORKS provides a theoretical program: THE FREE SCHOOL OF PERFORMANCE.The program consists of daily studio visits, collective critical sessions, reading groups and discussions on specific themes towards the redefinition of the concept of performance, film screenings and informal encounters supporting the production of each project.

The award LIVE WORKS includes a creative residency period, for nine selected projects. LIVE WORKS sees performance as a work space, and as an instrument and cultural exercise. Starting from the notion of performance in the visual art practice, the prize is unique in its particular attention to hybrid research, underlining the openness and fluidity of performance, its social and political implications and its level of public understandability. The competition is open to a wide range of emerging performative actions, including: Performances, sound and new media arts, text-based performances, lecture performances, multimedia storytelling, choreographic practices, relational and workshop-based projects, and other projects questioning the idea of performativity beyond the body.
Artists and professionals from any geographic location can enter the competition, as individuals or in groups, with a single project. The competition only accepts unpublished or long-term projects that need to be developed and/or concluded, for which participation would represent an evolution of the project or it’s final chapter.
The nine projects selected by LIVE WORKS will be invited to participate in a production residency at Centrale Fies from the 10th to the 20th July 2017, during which each project will have a budget of € 1000,00 to contribute to the production of the performance.
The production of the performance projects during the residency will be supported by diverse types of curatorship, from theoretical to technical development.
During the residency phase, Centrale Fies will provide a technician and a production manager to assist the artists as they develop the selected projects. The residency phase is an essential part of the development of the competition and of the selected projects.
In the event that the residency cannot be carried out in the period indicated in the competition announcement, it is possible to organize alternative forms of residency. The proposal for an alternative residency must be justified by the typology and characteristics of the projects presented.
The performances produced will be presented during the 37th edition of the Drodesera Festival of Performing Arts (21st, 22nd, 23rd July 2017). On this occasion, the nine winning projects will be seen and discussed by a board of international professionals, working for festival, institutions residency and production programs that sustain and produce research in performance. The board will be actively involved in public and private meetings with the nine artists.
The nine selected projects can benefit of a further 10-day residency at Centrale Fies in a period betweenthe 1st August and the 31st December 2017.
