Il premiato coreografo Gary Clarke ricerca un danzatore uomo versatile e altamente capace da integrare alla compagnia per il tour autunnale dell’acclamata pièce COAL.

Le audizioni si svolgeranno a Leeds e Londra il 17 e il 23 luglio 2016.

Creato in occasione del 30° anniversario della fine dello dallo sciopero dei minatori britannici del 1984, COAL è una avvincente piece di teatrodanza che usa uno sguardo nostalgico per colpire duramente la vita della miniera. Descritto da The Times come ‘eccezionale’, la produzione prevede una compagnia di ballerini professionisti, musica dal vivo, partecipanti della comunità e una forte progettazione e produzione di squadra.

COAL riceve fondi dallo Strategic Touring Grant dell’Arts Council England ed è co-commissionato e supportato da DanceXchange, Dance City, CAST Doncaster, Yorkshire Dance, The Place, Dance4, Nottingham Playhouse, The Barnsley Civic, Northern School of Contemporary Dance and The National Union of Mineworkers

Ruolo 

All’artista selezionato sarà chiesto di:

• imparare il repertorio di COAL da un ruolo esistente. COAL ha spettacoli in teatri nazionali di media grandezza in autunno 2016 (11 spettacoli in totale);
• verrà richiesto di eseguire alcune sezioni di COAL in site-specific connessi ai luoghi e aree;
• trasmettere workshop per conto di COAL a scuole, college e università a livello nazionale
• lavorare con e insieme a gruppi di donne provenienti da comunità di estrazione del carbone.

• dal 19 al 24 settembre 2016 – prove a Londra (il luogo verrà comunicato)
• dal 25 settembre al 1 ottobre – The Tramway Theatre a Glasgow
• dal 15 al 22 ottobre – The Lawrence Batley Theatre a Huddersfield
• dal 23 al 29 ottobre – The Gulbenkian Theatre a Canterbury
• dal 5 al 12 movembre – The Gala Theatre a Durham
• dal 19 al 26 novembre – The Blackwood Miners Welfare Institute a Caerphilly (Wales)
• dal 3 al 10 dicembre – The Contact Theatre a Manchester

Retribuzione: £500 alla settimana per 7 settimane ovvero cachet di = £3500 (con contratto da freelance) + rimborso viaggi, sistemazione e ‘per diems’ (altre ulteriori date di spettacolo e workshop per autunno 2016 sono in via di definizione e anche altre date di tournée per la primavera 2017 saranno confermate entro agosto 2016).

Audizioni

Le audizioni sono solo su invito e i candidati devono dimostrare: forte tecnica contemporanea, forte tecnica di floor-work, forte fisicità, forte abilità teatrale, grande esperienza nel lavoro fisico, buone capacità nella contact e nel partnering, notevole resistenza, buona capacità nell’improvvisazione e creatività, buona musicalità, confidenza col testo, abilità a connettersi emozionalmente col lavoro guidato, volontà e apertura verso il lavoro di comunità e con non-danzatori, buona attitudine al lavoro, buon senso ironico, capacità di collaborare in team e di saper lavorare sotto pressione, confidenza ed esperienza nella formazione e nell’assistenza.

Gary Clarke Company Audition

Award winning choreographer Gary Clarke requires 1 versatile and highly skilled male dancer to join Gary Clarke Company for the UK Autumn tour of the critically acclaimed mid-scale dance theatre production COAL.

Where: Leeds and London, UK

When: 17 and 23 July

Marking the 30th anniversary to the end of the 1984 British miners’ strike, COAL is a riveting piece of dance theatre which takes a nostalgic look at the hard hitting realities of life at the coal face. Described by The Times as ‘Outstanding’ the production involves a company of professional dancers, live brass bands, community participants and a strong design and production team.

COAL is funded through a Strategic Touring Grant from Arts Council England and is co-commissioned and supported by: DanceXchange, Dance City, CAST Doncaster, Yorkshire Dance, The Place, Dance4, Nottingham Playhouse, The Barnsley Civic, Northern School of Contemporary Dance and The National Union of Mineworkers

Job Role

The successful artist will be required to:

• Successfully learn the repertoire from COAL from an existing role. PerformCOAL at various mid-scale theatre venues nationwide in Autumn 2016 (11 shows in total).
• Perform certain sections ofCOAL at site-specific locations linked to each venue and area.
• Deliver COAL workshops at schools, colleges and universities nationwide.
• Work with and alongside groups of women from coal mining communities.

Project Details 2016

• 19th to 24th September 2016 – Rehearsals in London (venue TBC)
• 25th September to 1st October – The Tramway Theatre in Glasgow
• 15th to 22nd October – The Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield
• 23rd to 29th October – The Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury
• 5th to 12th November – The Gala Theatre in Durham

£500 per week x 7 weeks engagement = £3500 (freelance contract) PLUS additional travel, accommodation and per diems covered. (Other additional dates for performances and workshops for Autumn 2016 may be added in discussion with the artists and the company and additional touring dates for Spring 2017 will be confirmed by August 2016)

Audition

Audition is by invitation ONLY and interested applicants should demonstrate: A very strong contemporary dance technique, strong floor work technique, a strong physical build, strong physical theatre skills, experience in highly physical work, good contact and partnering skills, very good stamina, good improvisation and creative skills, good musicality, confidence in text work, the ability to connect with very emotionally driven work, a willingness and openness to work with the community / non-dancers, a good working attitude, a good sense of humour, the ability to collaborate and work well as a team, the ability to work well under pressure, confidence and experience in delivering education and outreach work, a full CRB check.
