Aerowaves. Springback Academy per lo Spring Forward Festival 2017. Call per aspiranti critici di danza.

Aerowaves ha lanciato un bando per aspiranti critici di danza per recensire le performances di Spring Forward Festival 2017 che si svolgerà ad Aarhus, Danimarca, dal 28 al 30 aprile 2017.

Un progetto finalizzato a stimolare il dialogo sulla danza e la performance cercando di migliorare e promuovere l’attività critica coreutica on line.

La prima versione pilota di Springback Academy si svolse durate lo Spring Forward festival a Umeå nel 2014; la seconda, in versione estesa, ebbe luogo a Barcellona durante lo Spring Forward nel 2015, e la terza a Pilsen nel 2016. Ancora una volta, nel 2017, Springback Academy offrirà agli aspiranti scrittori di danza l’opportunità di essere tutorati nelle linee fondamentali per ciò che concerne l’attività critica nell’ambito di Spring Forward festival di Aerowaves che si terrà quest’anno ad Aarhus in Danimarca dal 28 al 30 aprile 2017.

Sotto la guida di quattro esperti scrittori di danza, i partecipanti hanno la possibilità di creare, modellare e condividere le conversazioni sulla danza e affinare le loro abilità di scrittura critica. E’ un modo veloce per acquisire esperienza e tecnica nella capacità critica coreutica nonché un modo per esplorare e comprendere le opportunità che l’editoria digitale offre.

Ai selezionati per il progetto Aerowaves fornirà mentorship, sistemazione e ospitalità. Ai partecipanti verrà chiesto di organizzare e finanziare i loro viaggi di ritorno. Aerowaves organizzerà i vaggi locali da e per gli aeroporti di Bilund o Aarhus.

Cosa comporterà la Springback Academy 2017:

Ai cercano fino a 10 persone “opinioniste” con interesse alla danza o qualche precedente esperienza nella scrittura sulla danza. I partecipanti riceveranno tutoraggio sulla scrittura critica da parte di quattro principali critici: Donald Hutera (The Times, Londra), Sanjoy Roy (The Guardian, Londra), Roslyn Sulcas (New York Times, Londra/New York) e Monna Dithmer (Politiken, Copenhagen).

Oonagh Duckworth, editore  produttore con sede a Bruxelles sarà presente come coordinatore della Springback Academy.

Il primo pomeriggio/serata dell’Academy sarà trascorso facendo conoscenza l’un l’altro e prendendo parte ad una lezione introduttiva sulla scrittura di danza.

Durante lo Spring Forward festival ogni partecipante :

• Scriverà recensioni brevi in lingua inglese (140 parole) di alcune delle performances che vengono viste durante il fine settimana. Si lavorerà in tempi stretti in modo che le recensioni possano essere pubblicate ogni giorno sul sito di Aerowaves.

• Genererà recensioni molto corte, provocazioni, opinioni e domande da condividere su Twitter usando l’hashtag #Springback per la discussione.

• Parteciperà alla tavola rotonda relativa sulla direzione che la danza sta prendendo o dovrebbe prendere.

Come candidarsi:

• Mandare la sintesi delle vostre esperienze di scrittura critica (140 parole o di meno).
• Mandare semplice recensione (in inglese) di una performance di danza che avete visto (140 parole o di meno). Possono essere recensioni esistenti oppure scritti appositi per questa candidatura.
• Spiegare in 140 parole, o meno, perché vorreste partecipare alla Springback Academy 2017.
• Spiegare in 140 parole, o meno, la vostra scena coreutica locale.
• Si prega di indicare all’incirca data e orario di arrivo e di partenza. Chi verrà scelto per il progetto idealmente dovrebbe arrivare nel pomeriggio (se possibile alle 14:00) del 27 aprile e partire dopo il mezzogiorno del 1 maggio.
• Mandare tutto via email a oonagh@aerowaves.org e per CC alice@aerowaves.org entro le ore 11:00 di lunedì 27 febbraio 2017. Indicare come oggetto della mail “Springback 2017 Application”.
• I selezionati al progetto riceveranno la notifica via email entro lunedì 13 marzo 2017.

Be part of Springback Academy 2017

Open call for budding dance writers to review Spring Forward Festival 2017 performances in Aarhus, Denmark 28-30 April.

A project designed to stimulate dialogue about dance and performance whilst striving to improve and promote written criticism online.

The first pilot version of the Springback Academy took place during the Spring Forward festival in Umeå in 2014; a second, extended version was held during Spring Forward in Barcelona in 2015, and a third, in Pilsen in 2016. Once again, in 2017, Springback Academy will offer aspiring dance writers the chance to be mentored in the fundamentals of quality dance criticism in the action-packed environment of Spring Forward, Aerowaves’ buzzing annual festival that will take place this year in Aarhus, Denmark from 28-30 April 2017.

Under the guidance of four experienced dance writers, participants have the chance to create, shape and share conversations about dance and hone their critical writing skills for a number of different formats. It’s a fast-track way to gain experience and technique in responsible, effective, attractive dance criticism as well as to explore and understand the opportunities that digital publishing has to offer.

If selected for the project, Aerowaves will provide mentorship, accommodation and hospitality. Participants will be required to organise and fund their own return travel to Aarhus. Aerowaves will organise local travel to and from Bilund or Aarhus airports.

What Springback Academy 2017 will entail:

We are looking for up to 10 opinionated people with an interest in, or some prior experience of writing about dance. The participants will be mentored in critical writing by our four lead critics: Donald Hutera (The Times, London), Sanjoy Roy (The Guardian, London), Roslyn Sulcas (New York Times, London/New York) and Monna Dithmer (Politiken, Copenhagen)

Oonagh Duckworth, Brussels based editor and dance producer will also be present as Springback Academy coordinator.

The first afternoon/evening of the Academy will be spent making acquaintance with one another and attending an introductory lecture about dance writing followed by an extended Q & A session.

During the Spring Forward festival each participant will:

• Write short reviews in English (140 words) of several of the performances they see over the weekend. They will work to tight deadlines so that their reviews can be published each day on the Aerowaves website

• Generate ultra-short reviews, provocations, opinions and questions to share on Twitter – using #Springback to gather the conversations.

• Participate in a round-table/panel discussion about where dance writing is, or should be, heading.

• Contribute one longer, opinion-style piece for the Aerowaves website in the week after the festival — to allow for greater reflection or to draw themes and bigger ideas together.

How to apply:

• Send us a summary of your experience in critical review writing (140 words or less).
• Send us a sample review (in English) of a dance performance you have seen (140 words or less). This can be an existing review or one you’ve written especially for this application.
• Tell us in 140 words or less why you want to participate in Springback Academy 2017.
• Tell us in 140 words or less about your local dance scene.
• Tell us your potential arrival and departure date and time. If selected for the project, you would ideally need to arrive on the afternoon (if possible by 2pm) of Thursday April 27 and depart after midday on Monday 1 May.
• Send all of this in an email to: oonagh@aerowaves.org and CC alice@aerowaves.org before 11am (GMT) on Monday 27 February 2017. Please put “Springback 2017 Application” as the email subject.
• Participants will be notified by email by Monday 13 March 2017 whether they have been selected for the project.
