ArtHouse Jersey con sede presso la Jersey Arts Trust, a Jersey, nel Regno Unito, ha annunciato la quarta edizione di Artist Lock-In a Elizabeth Castle. Si cercano 2 artisti di Jersey e 10 artisti da tutto il mondo.
Artist Lock-In, realizzato in collaborazione con WildWorks e Jersey Heritage, è un progetto di residenza professionale facilitato che mette insieme artisti di varie discipline (musica, danza, arti visive, letteratura, film, letteratura, performance), età, formazioni ed esperienze per imparare l’uno dall’altro e rispondere ai loro ambienti. L’idea è quella di offrire agli artisti tempo e spazio per considerare nuovi modi di lavorare e collaborare con persone di diverse pratiche.
Come funziona?
Gli artisti saranno in residenza al Castello da domenica 1 ottobre a martedì 10 ottobre 2017 e avranno una serie di compiti che incoraggiano il lavoro di squadra e il pensiero creativo. Mentre la residenza progredisce, i compiti diventeranno sempre più focalizzati, finché i partecipanti lavoreranno assieme per fare pezzi condivisi che verranno mostrati a un pubblico nei due ultimi giorni.
Il progetto sarà immersivo e gli artisti non lasceranno l’Elizabeth Castle durante il processo di residenza, saranno davvero bloccati là.
Il Lock-in sarà facilitato da Sue Hill, direttore associato di WildWorks – la rinomata compagnia teatrale internazionale meglio conosciuta per la sua produzione nel 2011 The Passion con Michael Sheen a Port Talbot. Dal 2000 al 2006 Sue è stato anche il Direttore Artistico del progetto Eden, sviluppando la propria strategia di interpretazione innovativa, commissionando artisti, scrittori e artisti per illuminare le idee e i messaggi di Eden.
La residenza non è pagata, ma la partecipazione è libera (non c’è alcuna tassa di iscrizione). ArtHouse Jersey fornirà a tutti gli artisti vitto e alloggio al castello tra queste date.
Gli artisti sono tenuti a viaggiare a proprie spese o alle spese di un’organizzazione culturale di una loro Istituzione di origine. I partecipanti dovranno arrivare a Jersey prima delle ore 12:00 di domenica 1 e ripartiranno mercoledì 11 ottobre 2017.
In particolare si cercano candidature da artisti internazionali e locali interessati a partecipare al Lock-In. Artisti di oltre 18 anni, di qualsiasi disciplina (artisti visivi, musicisti, scrittori, registi, fotografi, artisti multimediali), interessati a partecipare al progetto dovrà inviare ad Alice Bravery il formulario compilato ed alcuni esempi del proprio lavoro. ArtHouse Jersey 2017 Artist Lock-In Residency Open Call
We’re thrilled to announce that we are producing our fourth Artist Lock-In at Elizabeth Castle and we’re appealing for two artists from Jersey to take part, who will be creating work alongside up to ten international artists.
In association with WildWorks and Jersey Heritage, the Artist Lock-In will be a professionally facilitated residency project that brings Artists of a variety of disciplines (music, dance, visual arts, literature, film, literature, performance), ages, backgrounds and experiences together to learn from each other and respond to their surroundings. The idea is to provide Artists with time and space to consider new ways of working and collaborating with people of different practices.
How does it work?
The Artists will be in residence at the Castle from Sunday 1st October – Tuesday 10th October and will be taken through a series of tasks that encourage teamwork and creative thinking. As the residency progresses, the tasks will become more focused, until the participants are left to work together to make shared pieces that will be showcased to an audience in the final two days.
The project will be fully residential with no Artist leaving Elizabeth Castle at any point during the process – they will truly be ‘locked in’.
The Lock-in will again be facilitated by Sue Hill who is the Associate Director of WildWorks – the renowned international theatre company best known for its 2011 production of ‘The Passion’ with Michael Sheen in Port Talbot. From 2000 – 2006, Sue was also the Artistic Director for the Eden Project, developing their innovative interpretation strategy, commissioning artists, writers and performers to illuminate Eden’s ideas and messages.
The residency is not paid, but it is free to participate in and to apply to. ArtHouse Jersey will provide all Artists with accommodation and all meals at the castle between these dates.
Artists are required to travel to Jersey at their own expense or at the expense of a cultural organisation of their home jurisdiction. Participants must make necessary travel arrangements to arrive in Jersey before 12:00 on Sunday 1st and depart on Wednesday 11th October.
We now want to hear from you:
We are now seeking applications from International and Local artists who are interested in taking part in the Lock-In. Artists, who are over 18, of any discipline (visual artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers, photographers, multimedia artists), interested in taking part in the project should send a completed application form and some examples of their work to Alice Bravery. Past Artist Lock-Ins:
The Artist Lock-in concept in 2012, in a private garden in St. Brelade. Eight Jersey born-artists, including Karen Le Roy-Harris and BAFTA nominated film director Michael Pearce, took part in the project.
In October 2013 a second Artist Lock-in was held at Elizabeth Castle, which saw a group of artists from Jersey, Iceland, Malta, Norway, Denmark and London, take up residence at the Castle where they created collective work inspired by their surroundings.
To coincide with Jersey’s hosting of the 2015 NatWest Island Games, Jersey Arts Trust (soon to be ArtHouse Jersey) produced a third Lock-In. To mirror the inclusive and cooperative ethos of the Island Games, one Artist from each participating island spent ten days at the Castle developing shared work around the theme of ‘Islandness’.
