Kelly Strayhorn Theater accetta candidature per i suoi 4 giorni del newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival con performances di coreografi a metà carriera o emergenti, presentati attraverso incontri con artisti, master classes e simposio.

Giunta all’ottava edizione newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival è pensato appositamente sia per talenti emergenti che artisti ormai consolidati e svolge un ruolo vitale nella scena coreutica di Pittsburgh favorendo nuovi lavori e incoraggiando gli artisti ad assumersi rischi creativi e a spingere i limiti. Inaugurato nel 2009, newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival è una piattaforma per danzatori contemporanei e coreografi che condividono il palco con coreografi locali, nazionali ed internazionali.

Il festival si tiene in due luoghi: il Kelly Strayhorn Theater (teatro da 350 posti) e l’ Alloy Studios (spazio da 70 posti). ll festival propone uno schema flessibile per sistemare programmi condivisi di lavori brevi e occasionalmente lavori di durata più lunga. KST sostiene gli artisti attraverso lo spazio per le prove, assistenza tecnica, accesso al teatro coi mezzi tecnici in dotazione e un onorario.

newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival offre un’opportunità ai coreografi di presentare nuovi lavori, fornisce una preziosa visibilità e un ricco network. I precedenti festival hanno programmato artisti come: Sidra Bell (NYC), Kyle Abraham (NYC), Marjani Forte (NYC), Staycee Pearl (PGH), Murphy/Smith Dance Collective (PGH) e molti altri.

Criteri di selezione

I progetti vengono selezionati attraverso la visione di proposte, e una particolare attenzione viene data ai lavori in fase di sviluppo e/o agli artisti a inizio carriera. Così come saranno accolte le proposte più competitive ed originali che non sono ancora state presentate a Pittsburgh. Le candidature saranno valutate in base ai seguenti criteri selettivi:

• Vitalità della progetto proposto nella sua propria concezione;
• Qualità e integrità del lavoro nell’artista nell’ensemble e nei collaboratori
• il progetto è appropriato al format e ai luoghi del festival KST;
• capacità del team di realizzare con successo il progetto proposto

newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival 2016. Call for Proposals

Kelly Strayhorn Theater is currently accepting applications for its four-day newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival of performances by emerging and mid-career choreographers, presented along with artist talks, master classes and symposium.

Now in its eighth year, newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival is designed to feature both rising talent and established artists alike, and plays a vital role in Pittsburgh’s dance scene by fostering new works and encouraging artists to take creative risks and push boundaries. Launched in 2009, newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival is a platform for contemporary dancers and choreographers to share the stage with local, national, and international choreographers.

The festival takes place at two venues, the 350-seat proscenium Kelly Strayhorn Theater, and KST’s 70-seat Alloy Studios. The festival features a flexible schedule to accommodate shared programs of short works and occasionally some larger projects. KST provides development support through rehearsal space, technical assistance, access to the theater with its sound and lighting inventory, and an honorarium.

newMoves Contemporary Dance Festival offers an opportunity for choreographers to showcase new works, provides valuable exposure and a rich peer network. Past festival artists have included: Sidra Bell (NYC), Kyle Abraham (NYC), Marjani Forte (NYC), Staycee Pearl (PGH), Murphy/Smith Dance Collective (PGH) and many more.

Criteria for Selection

Projects are selected through a proposal process, with an emphasis on new projects in development and/or early career artists. The most competitive proposals will be for original works that have not yet had been presented in Pittsburgh. The applications and work samples will be evaluated based on following:

• Vitality of the proposed project and its ideas;
• Quality and integrity of the work of the artist, ensemble and collaborators;
• Appropriateness of the project to a festival format and KST venues;
• Artist’s and/or team’s ability to successfully realize the proposed project.

• One-page proposal outlining and describing the piece you would like to showcase, including a development timeline, anticipated length of the completed work, materials list, number of dancers, etc.
• Links to no more than three five-minute samples of original work
• Work sample description sheet, including viewing cue times, project creation date, collaborators, and additional information relevant to your proposed work;
• OPTIONAL: Up to three pages of supplementary materials, including design sketches, press, etc.
